Do you remember the first story you heard as a child? It would be safe to assume you don't. Why, you ask? Because chances are that you heard your first story when you were less than a few months old. Stories are an integral part of our lives. Stories have been told from time immemorial - by mothers lulling their babies to sleep or chiding their toddlers to finish their glass of milk, by teachers getting their students to settle in school, by uncles and aunts to engage children from time to time, and the list can go on. What makes stories so popular is their ability to instantly capture young minds and carry them into a world of fantasy. My early memory of stories was when all cousins would eagerly wait for our thatha (Grandfather, in Kannada and Tamil) to wake from his afternoon siesta.
