Another weekend gone! Time has been flying faster than the Concorde! This week we were busy getting kids ready, to get ready for school. Pranathi’s son has the first day of his first school today!
The weekend before the one gone
by, we had a fun story telling session
in Cubbon Park! It was a lovely, magical section of the park, just off the
beautiful Red Brick library. We were under the raintrees and cotton trees, so
the green grass had specks of almost cloud like cotton everywhere.
The shade of the trees made
everyone forget that it was a really hot day! We had two stories for our young
clients. The first one was a classic, “The Best Nest” by E.L. Reid. It has been
a favourite book for us, and Shilpa was the proud owner of her own copy, one
she’s been reading since she was a child! The second one was a fun rendition of
“The Birds and Pancakes”.
As our little clients and their
children started arriving, they all settled comfortably under the shade of
trees, we started our session. Some of the kids were intrigued by the little
nest box that was in front of them. After a round of exploration, the story
began. We had a theme song that everyone chimed in with us.
“ I love my house, I love my nest, in all this world, MY nest is best!”
Shilpa was the primary
storyteller this time. It was fun to see the children get engrossed into the
story as she proceeded, age no bar. It was a fun session. After this
story, and discussing why each of our
houses were the best, we decided to make a Bird’s nest! Gathering some straws,
cotton and other itsy-bitsy things, the kids helped us make a beautiful nest.
We placed it on one of the lower branches of a tree for the rest of the
session. We were surprised to see a crow come and explore this nest. Maybe, it
was looking to create its best nest!
The next story was toddler
friendly. It was about how a tiger wanted two birds to make pancakes for him
every single day, and how the birds got creative to make anything that looked
like a pancake. With our (and the children’s) imagination running wild, it was
fun to experience the various tastes ingredients could have. We imagined the
yummy flour pancakes, stone pancakes, and cow-dung pancakes!!
